On Saturday night the moon was the closest it’s going to be to earth for 18 years.
I popped my clothes over my PJ’s ..took the 5D with 70-200mm lens with a 2x converter on it…about 400mm lens at max… and snapped this little monkey from the back garden.
I love the black neutral space…thats black neutral space, literally.
We are all born of the stars people…
It’s a rare and beautiful thing when a client says….”we want 35 mm black and white gritty grainy reportage”…
Especially when that really is your bag…and especially in an age of super saturated overly polished photoshop madness.
Brand spanking new Glasgow client “Graphical House” had the faith and commissioned just that. A behind the scenes reportage shoot for The University of West Scotland prospectus…shoot of a shoot essentially.
Nice creative…great new client..and I think I rocked it…just a 35mm black n white boy.
Turcan Connell, one of Scotland’s largest legal firms commissioned me to shoot some office reportage and staff portraits some time last year. I’ve been back several times since, last week included…they are a great client!
They liked my work so much, they recently re-branded themselves around my photos…how flattering is that!
happy campers all round!

Hunter S Thompson, 5.42pm, 20th February 2005… “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro…” My favourite author of all time…I shall be raising a glass of wild turkey at precisely 5.42pm MST/00.30 GMT to mark the passing of the good doctor…one less sane soul in the world…
Gonzo self portrait on Polaroid, 2008
Another whirlwind Harper Collins portrait…A Gareth Malone book cover.
Working with Steve Boggs again. Always a pleasure.
We nailed it in under an hour.
Gareth was a legend…totally relaxed, happy to be shot, and a real hoot!
Looking forward to seeing the final book in the shops.
Jobs a goodun!
My good friend “Rick The Surfer”, Pease Bay, East Lothian, January 2011.
More 5×4 kodak tri-x magic…as the surfers project rolls on.
Oh I do so love shooting large format film.
Balls to digital…respect to film.
Respect to the sea…respect to surfers.

Only the brave… camp in the woods when it’s snowing and -10…then get up at dawn to shoot landscapes…in a gale…
shot using a Polaroid 600 range finder using discontinued Polaroid 665 film
i’m making old school… new school!
you heard it here first folks!

Hello Folks,
It’s marketing madness time! 200 copies of my HEAD/HEART newspaper were posted out to Creative Directors and Senior Designers in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester and Leeds.
In a nut shell: HEAD = commercial/commissioned work and HEART = Personal work.
The paper is a roaring success…portfolio viewings are happening as a result.
Big thanks to Kay Koyama-Gore for the idea and design work. Thanks to Newspaperclub for the print job.
Lets hope it brings more clients and more funky work!

Yet another Harper Collins adventure people. London Town shoot with Steve Boggs, art director guru and Charlie Fraser, the wonder assistant!
This time we were shooting Kay Burley, the face of sky news. Kay hates having her photo taken…but she was a true pro and we cracked on and got some great shots. I think Kay may have even enjoyed herself.
We followed the golden photography rule….KISS…keep it simple stupid!
Many thanks to all. Rob
